Holocaust survivor and guest speaker Rosette Goldstein tells students about her experiences during lunch in the media center. I came to speak today because I think its very important for young people to hear what Holocaust survivors have to say. Its not just an event of the past, it also pertains to the future.

[L-R] Communications senior Kayla Kirshenbaum and theatre senior Nick Pollock admire The Bohemian, a magazine created by artist in residence Emmy Kenny and her partner CJ Riehl, in the GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) meeting at lunch. The magazine had two different lifespans. The first one we started as students to bridge the gap between students and [Kansas] city. After we discovered Riot grrrl (a 1990s feminist punk movement) we reformatted the magazine to focus on social issues like gender and sexuality. We started all of this as a platform to help amplify the voices of marginalized groups.

The First Priority Club put up sticky notes on students lockers with kind and encouraging phrases written on them. Besides for advertising, we decided to put up the sticky notes to lighten up peoples day, for the ones who need it the most. Implementing positivity in peoples lives encourages hope and optimism, and that is what we want more of in this schools atmosphere, said visual junior and First Priority member Alexis Smith.

(L-R) Band junior Lihn Ton, communications junior Dylan Pollak, and dance junior Pia Kresse practice racing the cars they built for physics class using only a rubber band and McDonalds trash. The process of creating the car was tedious, but it was rewarding to see my hard work pay off when it [the car] actually worked, Ton said.
