April 29, 2026: An earlier version of this story mislabeled a date. The story has been corrected to fix this mistake.
Due to President Donald J. Trump speaking at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts the evening of May 1, the Senior Theatre Showcase, originally scheduled for that day, is now taking place Wednesday April 29.
“It’s been very frustrating for a lot of us,” theatre senior Tate Walker said. “Since it takes away both our chance to have a full run through and our chance to perform in front of just theatre students (in) what we usually call ‘theatre preview.’”
Hosted by the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, a nonpartisan political and public affairs organization whose main goal is to “to inform and educate the community’s business, social, and political interests,” according to their website, the event that Trump is speaking at is to be held in the Cohen Pavilion. As a result, the entire school campus will be shut down at 4 p.m.
“For me personally, my parents are now coming to see the show on my little brother’s birthday,” Walker said. “It’s all a bit messy, but we’re trying to move past the upset of it all since it really is no one at Dreyfoos’ fault, so we don’t want to blame it on one another when we all know we have to put that energy towards being ready by tomorrow.”
This is a developing story.
