Sofia Hennessey-Correa, Editor in Chief

Sofia Hennessey-Correa is a third-year staffer and co-editor-in-chief on The Muse. Apart from the publication, you may find her practicing her speech, taking photos around campus, volunteering, or spending time with friends and family. Sofia is active in multiple activities including the Speech & Debate Team, Spanish Honor Society, and various service projects. She hopes to create a positive and productive environment, while building relationships with the staff.

The Save Our Musicians Foundation partnered with the School of the Arts Foundation to host a fundraising concert for Bak Middle School of the Arts and Dreyfoos Nov. 18 at Tiki 52. Students, teachers, and their families had the opportunity to attend the concert. “I would consider myself one of the biggest country (music) fans at Dreyfoos. I’m actually not even going to meet the man (Luke Bryan) and I am freaking out,” digital media senior Cynthia Mondragon said before the concert.

The concert was in partnership with the School of the Arts Foundation (SOAFI). “Mr. Cunningham approached me about two years ago with regards to doing a fundraiser for the school,” SOAFI major gifts officer John Richards said. “He had heard about us and I just brought him to a concert. Our jazz concert actually blew him away. He wanted to help out young students who were wanting to be in the world of the arts, a bit more leaning towards music, but hes open to all the art departments that we have.”

The acapella barbershop quartet Square One (vocal seniors Brian Trompeter, Brianna Tejada, Angelina Castillo, and Aileen Pereda) accompanied by vocal senior London O’Brien perform “Sweet Creature” by Harry Styles. “The learning process is completely different. So we did it by ear instead of by sheet music. So we were listening to the songs and he had a guitar in London, looking at chords for the songs. And then we were all like learning the songs by ear, like having harmonies by ear, while our traditional barbershop is like from sheet music that we buy online.”

Vocal sophomore Sage Duke finishes her mic check to “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. “I just want to add how grateful I am to have this experience because this is like a once in a lifetime sort of thing,” Duke said. “Im just eternally grateful for this opportunity, and for Dreyfoos, and for the people who are a part of the foundation.” Duke performs “Jolene” during the Save Our Musicians Foundation’s “An Evening with Luke Bryan” concert. Duke was the first performer from Dreyfoos.

With her legs extended for a grand jeté, dance senior Lindsey Ryerson performs her solo, “Life,” during the annual Dance Senior Solo Showcase. The Senior Solo Showcase on Sept. 23 allowed students to include the skills they have learned during their time at Dreyfoos. “Being in the black box was definitely different because during the performance, since the black box is so small, I was able to see every single person,” Ryerson said. “I was excited and a little bit nervous because I didn’t want to mess up on stage.”

New math teacher Traci De León describes limits in relation to vertical asymptotes to her second period class. Mrs. De León decided to teach at Dreyfoos to be closer to her husband, jazz director Christopher De León, and to experience the school’s art areas. “We worked together at the beginning of our careers 12 years ago in Orlando,” De León said. “The biggest reason I enjoyed working with him was because I can cheer them (the students) on because … both my husband and I knew the students personally.”
