Dance sophomore Emily Sutterfield signs a decorative banner in solidarity for LGBTQ+ rights. April 15 is the international Day of Silence when students across the world refrain from speaking for 24 hours to raise awareness for the LGBTQ+ community.
“Today is what’s called the Day of Silence and we decided that, as a school that’s all about expression, it would be better to have a day to speak out in solidarity than to be silent,” said communications junior Matthew Nadel.
Students gathered in the cafeteria to sign petitions and statements regarding various issues that face the community. These included a pledge to stand up for LGBTQ+ students who are being discriminated against and also expressing interest in having Dreyfoos implement gender-neutral bathrooms.
