Due to the heavy rain and winds of up to nine mph, the Lip Dub was put on hold after three run-throughs of the performance on the final day of Spirit Week, Friday, March 13.
All students were escorted into the building closest to them, with many entering the cafeteria after the rain began to fall. The Lip Dub has been modified and administration is “brainstorming an alternative solution” for the ending of the Lib Dub to be filmed during the pep rally in the afternoon, according to an email by Principal Blake Bennett.
Over the intercom, Principal Bennett announced that the drain outside of Building 3 had been clogged and that a flood of water was blocking the doors. Students and staff are currently not permitted to enter the building until further notice. Students were also advised that they may need to enter Building 3 using the second floor entrance until the flooding is resolved.
Around 30 minutes after Principal Bennett’s intercom announcement, English teacher Alicia Barton confirmed that flood water entered the first floor hallway of Building 3.
The drone shot on the field, which was scheduled to return after at least a three-year hiatus, is officially canceled, according to an email from Principal Bennett. The drone shot was scheduled to take place after the conclusion of the Lip Dub.
For communications senior Ava Rivera, this would be her last Lip Dub before graduating.
“I feel it’s just inconvenient because SGA (Student Government Association) didn’t know that there was going to be rain, but the fact that there is, and there’s been so much work put into the Lip Dub this year, it’s just kind of sad,” Rivera said. “It might not have the same kind of school spirit that it has in years past. Some of that magic might be gone.”
This is a developing story.
