THE MUSE
The Save Our Musicians Foundation partnered with the School of the Arts Foundation to host a fundraising concert for Bak Middle School of the Arts and Dreyfoos Nov. 18 at Tiki 52. Students, teachers, and their families had the opportunity to attend the concert. “I would consider myself one of the biggest country (music) fans at Dreyfoos. I’m actually not even going to meet the man (Luke Bryan) and I am freaking out,” digital media senior Cynthia Mondragon said before the concert.

Her name’s Isabella but the “Isa” is silent. Bella is a Communications sophomore and a Photo staffer on Muse. She’s kind of weird, but that’s what’s fun about her. Actually, she’s kind of a loser, but she’s really nice! The best kind of loser is a friendly loser. At least she knows that it isn’t spelled “looser”. Anyway, she plays guitar and laughs really loud when the room is dead silent in her free time. She loves photography and hanging out with friends. If you see her, smile so she doesn’t feel as bad about herself.

Piano sophomore Maria Annica Matig-A plays Prelude and Fugue in d minor, BWV 851 by Bach. It was the final piece she played during “Rach On,” after “Pathetique” Sonata Op. 13 No. 8 in c minor (Movements 2 and 3) by Beethoven. “Even though I had some rough spots, I really liked the performance overall,” Matig-A said. “Even though the spotlight was on me and everyone’s stares were just locked on me, I’m just being myself.”

The Jazz Band holds their first concert of the year, having been practicing since Sept. in order to perform for an audience.. The students and conductors worked together to put on a show where bassists, pianists, and saxophonists alike performed songs under jazz subgenres such as blues and ragtime. “Usually as soon as one concert ends, we prepare for the next one,” band sophomore Fox Lopez said. “At the start of each year, we normally start around the second week of school, give or take a few days.”
