The Piano Department hosted a recital Feb. 2 in the Black Box theater. The recital, titled “Groundbreaking Music”, had performances by sophomores Josefina Ezcurra, Sabrina Wu, Isabelle Grandison, Simon Ngyuen, and Karen Zhao, along with a piece accompanied by strings sophomore Gary Zhen on the violin.

The students form groups at the beginning of the school year based on the combined length of their chosen pieces. Throughout the year, Dean of the Music Department and Director of Piano Studies Ms. Katz listens and coaches the students in their groups.

“Well, the food after [the recital] is always delicious,” piano sophomore Karen Zhao said. “But I also like how everyone is a little nervous and it makes us all bond closer because of the same jittery feeling.”
