SGA and class council members attended the Florida Association of Student Councils (FASC) Leadership State Conference from Feb. 20-22 for the first time in school history, where they participated in workshops, seminars, and keynote speaker sessions at Dr. Joaquín García High School. The state conference brought together over 1,400 high school and middle school students from across the state to work with other SGA members and learn about leadership techniques.

Prior to this conference, SGA and class council representatives worked on creating project books, which highlighted and summarized events SGA had organized on campus. SGA submitted books in ten different categories to be graded against other schools at this convention, and four of the project books earned awards.

SGA co-presidents vocal senior Beau McDowell and communications senior Gavin Murray hosted a workshop on the last day of the conference titled “Rally Ready!” During the workshop sessions, they spoke about building “hype” for an event through social media, staying organized while planning Spirit Week, and introduced and played “Queen’s Request” with students, a typical game played during Pep Rally.

“It was an amazing opportunity to display our SGA and how we do things at Dreyfoos to students across the state,” McDowell said. “It was also a great bonding experience, and I felt we grew closer as an SGA.”
