Communications students gathered for the school’s first Quill and Scroll Honor Society induction since 2021. The event recognized the inductees’ commitments to reporting, writing, and storytelling through their involvement in the The Muse newsmagazine, The Marquee yearbook, DSOA Today broadcast daily news show, and Seeds literary magazine.
This year’s event featured a special guest: Editor-In-Chief of Palm Beach Illustrated Daphne Nikolopoulos, who expressed the opportunities and challenges she faced in her upbringing in the journalism industry. Nikolopoulos also stressed the importance of proper storytelling to build community.
Following the keynote, the induction portion of the event began. One by one, inductees were called to the front to receive their Quill and Scroll pins and certificates. Then, they recited the official pledge and joined in the candle-lighting ceremony, affirming their commitment to responsible, impactful journalism.
“Pursuing truth in journalism, which is one of the core values of the journalism program at Dreyfoos, is and should be the foundation of journalism now and in the future,” Nikolopoulos said. “This is particularly important in a time when AI, social media, and ‘citizen journalism’ have proliferated and are not always reliable sources of information.”
