Oung (right) waits in between competition rounds with her opponents at the CBI speech and debate tournament on the last day of camp. Oung performed her piece in four preliminary rounds and ultimately made it to the final round, which consisted of only six speakers. Throughout the camp, as well as the tournament, Oung crafted both a new piece and several new friendships. “I met so many people at camp on the speech and debate circuit that I’m excited to see in the upcoming school year at tournaments,” Oung said. “Camp is such a good place to make long-lasting friendships with both my fellow debaters and mentors, especially since we made so many memories together in two weeks.”

Theatre junior Elle Holzhauer acts as the lead role in communications senior Brianna Seaberg’s film “Change of Heart.” Holzhauer plays Claire, a girl who strives to find internal peace after the emotional trauma of losing a grandparent. “Acting in ‘Change of Heart’ was an amazing experience, as I got to collaborate with other talented students and refine my own style of acting,” Holzhauer said. “That just makes me love acting more. It’s not just the end product, but also the experience.”

Fending against the mystical Ferrah the Faerie, left, played by theatre sophomore Felica Voehringer, a fight scene ensues amongst the cast. The use of lighting and post production additions allowed the fight to tie in the elements it would have encompassed as an in-person production. “[Ferrah is] a villain and obstacle that they have to get past,” Voehringer said. “So it was really interesting to be that insane, fictional character.”

The collage above mixes paintings, prints, and poems by visual seniors Kailyn Bryant and Sabrea Stallings. The poem, “Crying over Caskets,” by Stallings, along with Bryant’s work, incorporates the tumultuous lives and emotions of what it means to be Black in America. Black students, such as Bryant and Stallings, have used their artwork to express their navigation through the current political environment. All of Bryant’s work can be found on her website: kbryantfinearts.com
