The top three ways to spend the rest of the summer indoors

Summer vacation is almost over. Just a week lie between now and the day we return to late nights and piles of homework. You can take advantage of the remaining days of freedom we have by going to the beach, traveling or, if you are like me, locking yourself indoors hiding away from the scorching hot sun for the rest of the summer. Of course, you can’t just live the summer as a hermit without having something to pass the time. There are plenty of ways to spend the remainder of the summer indoors, but these ways are my top three.

    1. Glue yourself to the Television Screen
We live in an age where video streaming services are readily available to consume hours (if not days) of our lives. If you’re looking for a simple way to spend the rest of the summer inside, this is it. You can sit down in front of your television or computer, log into Netflix, Hulu, Amazon or any other streaming service and binge-watch to your heart’s content. Thousands of shows and movies can be accessed through these services, so you can always find either a fantastic new thriller or light-hearted comedy to watch. If you don’t have access to these services, never fear. You can always watch television the old fashioned way, and surf the channels until you find something you want to watch. Or, if there is nothing to watch on those hundreds of channels, you could watch dvds. With school coming up, homework time will cut into television time, so make sure to get your TV fix while you still can.

    2. Surrender to your Summer Assignments
Though it is easily one of the least entertaining ways to spend the rest of the summer, it is probably one of the smartest. Unless you are extremely lucky (or one of those rare responsible people who have finished them already), you most likely have summer assignments to complete before you return to school. If this is news to you, then check Edline immediately. Summer assignments are due shortly after school begins and often are counted as a grade, so completing them is a necessity. Sadly, summer vacation can have a deceiving title because as most of us know, there is no such thing as a vacation from homework and school. Now is the best time to complete any summer assignments you have and spare yourself some trouble and stress when school returns. Or, you could continue procrastinating and give up your sleep and sanity to finish them the day before the first day of school, either one works.

    3. Surf the Internet
If you are reading this article, then congratulations! You are already on the right track to following this time spending method. The Internet hardly needs explanation, considering that you are reading this article online. The Internet, as most people know, is an effective way to consume time and help you forget about the fast approach of the summer’s end. You could use it to access video streaming or to find out what those pesky summer assignments are. Or, you do other fun activities. There are plenty of social media websites available, like Facebook or Twitter, that allow you to continue your social life through the computer or remember when people’s birthdays are. Alternatively, you could you could waste time worshiping memes and laughing at whatever silly pictures are trending. Smart phones, tablets, computers and a myriad of other devices can grant you passage to the Internet. The World Wide Web is at your fingertips, ready to help you waste the rest of your summer in the comfort of your home.

Erik Ridd is a communications senior and the Co-Editor of the website you’re currently visiting. He spends most of his time pretending that he is talented at writing and drawing, melting his brain playing Nintendo video games or trying to convince people that he is literally Spider-Man and/or Batman. His accomplishments include catching all the Pokémon (after wasting hundreds of hours), becoming an Eagle Scout at the last possible moment, earning his black belt in tae kwon do so that he can intimidate people and somehow convincing the judges that he is worthy of attending Dreyfoos during auditions. Ridd is currently serving his third and final year on The Muse, and is doing his best to help make this website the best it can be. If you find an error or problem on this site make sure to both bring it to his attention and attribute all the blame to him.
