On Topic of Bathroom Decor

The other week while in Brooklyn I walked into a restaurant to use the restroom and as I opened the door, it dawned on me: Why do bathrooms tend to have the coolest art and furnishings? I know it’s an odd thought, but it’s definitely a considerable one.

When you’re out to lunch or with a group of friends and one of them goes to the restroom, everyone is quick to point out if the bathroom is cool and if it gets the thumbs up. People miraculously tend to slide out of their seats one by one and the next thing you know everyone at the table has taken and received 10 Snapchats of selfies in the bathroom mirrors.

It’s the wallpaper, the sinks, the light fixtures and the paintings hung on the wall that gets people excited. Thai Jo in CityPlace plastered the walls with vintage posters and rock and roll figures, the SLS on South Beach has mustaches and stickered faces on the mirrors fit for a fun photo.

So, the next time you walk into a interesting bathroom, look at the walls, maybe take a photo and appreciate the pretty cool things that complete them make the small room unique.
