MOZAMBIQUE—Nearly 1,200 species of animals and plants were documented for the first time by scientists in the Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. Scientists discovered several animals never before recorded, including the “Chewbacca bat,” (Triaenops persicus) and a strange silver and black Kassina frog that is “probably new to science,”

“It was an extremely rich experience in terms of adding data to what we’ve known about the park,” said expedition leader Piotr Naskrecki in an interview with CNN.

WEST PALM BEACH — The city commission voted last week on whether to ask the National Park Service to place the Grassy Waters Preserve on the National Register of Historic Places. The preserve, 23 square miles of wetlands, waterways and wildlife, is a potential start for ecotourism in the county.
