Spirit Week

Monday

The Student Government Association (SGA) hosted a Field Day during lunch in past years, but this Spirit Week, a dodgeball tournament replaced the event. Taking place in the gymnasium, the tournament featured a bracket-style competition between the grade levels, with the seniors placing first.

“I didn’t expect to laugh as hard as I did,” communications freshman and spectator Emma Hernandez said. “There was so much energy and so much spirit. I had so much fun.”

Playing the bass, orchestra director Jeffry Adkins, along with faculty and staff, surprises the student body with a performance of “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor from their band, “Finney and the Goldstones.” (Sabiha Prova)

Tuesday

The Battle of the Bands competition was held Tuesday. This year, the seniors won. Afterwards, various staff members gave an additional performance in a band called Finney and the Goldtones.

“This was my first time doing Battle of the Bands,” vocal sophomore and vocalist Clara Wordelmann said. “I was nervous at the start, but I fell into the music and just let my voice take control.”

Wednesday

Each class showcased a generations dance featuring songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s during lunch. Performers incorporated a variety of dance styles and storylines into the numbers. Ultimately, the juniors took first place.

“We worked really, really hard this year,” dance junior and generations choreographer Addy Kolanz said. “We put so much more time into this. It felt like such a huge accomplishment.”

Thursday

During the Student-Teacher Basketball Game, the teachers' team maintained their three year winning streak. Half-time featured grade level Powderpuff performances, with the sophomores winning for the first time in school history.

“(Us choreographers) taught cheers we learned from being on the cheer team,” theatre sophomore and Powderpuff choreographer Jillian Loiz said. “We all worked on creating moves that would work with certain parts of the music.”

Placing the last two remaining blocks in the Magic Block Stacking Game, theater junior Zachary Fischetti rides vocal junior Eric Bolanos’ shoulders; the juniors finished in 2nd place. The teams’ goal was to stack blocks vertically to spell out, “I ♡ MAGIC!” Magic Block Stacking was a new addition to the Pep Rally this year. (Keegan McLendon)

Friday

The final day of Spirit Week began with filming the Lip Dub. This was cut short by heavy rain. The chalk drawing contest occurred throughout the week, and the judges declared the seniors’ “Stranger Things” illustration the winner.

Finally, the Pep Rally took place in the afternoon. In between the eight games, each grade level performed dances representing their themes, the final performance being from the staff. In the end, the seniors were announced as the winners of Spirit Week, storming the gym floor to claim the Spirit Stick.
