Near the main entrance of the EmKo Restaurant and Art Gallery, band juniors Tommy Gallagher (L-R), Nick Forte, Mark Ligonde, and Ahmad Johnson perform their Jazz Combos.

EmKo, an art gallery in West Palm Beach, was transformed on Nov. 19 into a story: the birth of a jazz musician. The event included an art gallery, coffee bar, restaurant and garden all in one creative space. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. EmKo hosted “The Art of Becoming a Jazz Musician” featuring students of the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Jazz band (DSOA Jazz ).

Band freshman Rocky Fox plays the trumpet at EmKo Palm Beach. "This is my passion. Being able to play not only at my school but in the public is great," Fox said.

“We got the great opportunity to work along with the EmKo owners and share our experience with the public, what it’s like to become a Jazz Musician,” band director Evan Rogovin said.

Partial proceeds and donations with help the DSOA Band students who are fundraising for their appearance at the “Music For All” Festival in Indianapolis in Spring 2016.

“I’m doing it to support the Band department for our upcoming festival, so being here is amazing. The art is great, and I’ll definitely do this once again in December,” band junior Evan Leahy said.

On Dec. 12, the Band department will be coming back to EmKo to host “A Musical Holiday Stroll” with live holiday music, art exhibits, Christmas treats, and hot chocolate free of charge.
