After waiting for months, the day has finally arrived. Nestled between Francesca’s and BCBG, there is a new store in CityPlace. On Oct. 24, the new H&M opened. Dreyfoos students now have a nearby store for an inexpensive but stylish fashion fix.
“The arrival of H&M at CityPlace is a perfect example of our dedication to continually bring new concepts for our loyal customers,” said R. Webber Hudson, Executive Vice president of Related Urban, which manages CityPlace, said an interview with the Sun-Sentinel.
The store’s opening marks the third H&M in Palm Beach County and the 15th H&M in Florida, but this is only the beginning. American H&M President Daniel Kulle wants to popularize the franchise.
“We have the resources to execute a lot of expansion,” Mr. Kulle said in an interview with the Miami Herald. “There are a lot of strong malls around. We will take it mall by mall. We are more keen on having the right spot and the right quality than just having numbers.”
The morning of the opening, hundreds lined up outside the doors to watch the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first 100 customers were awarded gift cards valued up to $300. The company who helps run CityPlace is dedicated to making the shopping experience in the area the most enjoyable for its customers, which is why the staff decided to add an H&M.
“It was beautiful,” communications junior Danae McDaniel said.
Many students are thrilled that they have such a fashionable and affordable store only a block or two away from campus.
“It’s really cool that we have one [in Cityplace] now,” digital media sophomore Beatrice Hood said. “It’s just another store.”
However some students are concerned about having a specific type of clothing store in such close proximity to Dreyfoos.
“It’s bittersweet,” visual sophomore Calil Russell Arguedas said. “It’s fantastic that we have an affordable store nearby, but we will see a gradual increase of the same styles on everyone around, thus creating a lot more conformity in our style.”
H&M is constantly changing its collection to match different styles and seasons, from casual to dressy and from winter to spring.
“There will always be something surprising in store,” Mr. Kulle said. “We like to keep that excitement.”
