Theatre freshman Sasha Prissert performs during the 9/11 Tribute Memorial on Friday afternoon in Meyer Hall.

The students crammed into the dimly lit Meyer Hall, diving straight into the assembly with the hope-inspiring music. On Friday, Sept. 11, the 9/11 tribute showcase led by theatre teacher Michelle Petrucci was held in Meyer Hall as an assembly and involved all departments.

“The tribute showcase is where everyone from the school can get together for a day like this,” Ms. Petrucci said.

The tribute is an artistic remembrance to 9/11, which occurred 14 years earlier. Not all performances were directly about the event of 9/11.

“I made it clear prior to auditions, I didn’t want it to be literal, just references. I don’t want to stress it,” Ms. Petrucci said. “I want to show how people help people.”

The tribute consisted of music, singing, poetry, dance, and an a capella performance. This was a tribute to not only those who were lost, but also those who lost, and those who helped.

“I want to give out a positive message,” Ms. Petrucci said.

It was a tribute to the tragic events of 9/11, and students felt their own personal connection to it.

“The mood I got from the assembly was somber,” digital media junior Joseph Dirienzo said. “How could it not have been? 9/11 was a tragedy. I’m always blown away by our students’ performances. They are honestly professional quality. This tribute was really heartfelt.”
