The girls soccer team stepped foot on the Olympic Heights field at 7 p.m. to play William T. Dwyer High School for the second this season on Friday, Jan. 17. The girls had beaten Suncoast earlier in the week for the first district match, earning them an automatic spot in regionals. This second district match against Dwyer was the decider of which team would be seated higher in the regional match.
“I never get nervous before playing. But since we don’t have our two captains and best defensive players for the most important game of the season, to a team we have already lost to, I’m a little apprehensive about tonight,” player and communications junior Ditalia ‘Alana’ Grnja said.
The girls ended the first half losing at 2-0 and finished off with a close loss of 2-1.
“Although we didn’t win, I’m extremely proud of the way we played; we’re still going to regionals either way, so that’s a good thing,” goalie and visual junior Rachel Rabinowitz said. “For regionals on Thursday, I think we need to work harder as a team to be there for each other, as that seemed to be our biggest weakness in this game.”
