The Speech and Debate and Creative Writing programs came together to showcase their work at Figure of Speech in the Black Box Theater on March 24.
Telling Their Truths
The entire cast of “Little Shop of Horrors” comes together on stage for the finale, “Don’t Feed the Plants.” In this number, Audrey and Seymour come together after both being eaten by Audrey II as a final reminder for the audience to never feed the plants.

Looking back at her artwork, visual senior Giovanna Romano reflects on how difficult it is to work on just a 4x4 canvas. However, she found that the project helped her apply the skills she learned over the past four years.

As president of Mural Painting Society, visual senior Jackie Cohen poses in front of the club’s first on-campus mural, which was created in collaboration with the Good Thyme Gardening Club. Cohen can often be spotted around campus sporting a headband or hat with frog eyes because she “just like(s) frogs.”

Visual freshman Rebecca Chen and theatre junior Paula Navarrete paint tomatoes as part of the new Good Thyme Gardening Club mural between buildings 3 and 4. This was the club’s first on-campus mural, so visual senior and Mural Painting Society co-vice president Gyongy “Lili” Szaszvarosi’s hopes that this project sets a “precedent for other clubs to collaborate” and helps to create “a single community (within Dreyfoos).” “Murals really help build a sense of community in physical spaces,” Szaszvarosi said. “When you have a lot of people, especially who are part of the community, working to turn a blank wall into something else, it really does make it feel more personal to the people who exist in that space. In the case of this mural, it’s the students themselves who are painting it and deciding to make the space more visually interesting.”

New math teacher Timothy Freeman helps band sophomore Gianna “Gigi” Mendelson with homework problems at the end of his fifth period precalculus class. Her classmate, band sophomore Ryan Brown, believes Mr. Freeman’s spontaneous style of teaching better “accommodates the needs of the class” by going at the pace of the class. “If you have a more rigid system, you can’t be that flexible,” Brown said. “You can’t be that adaptable.”

Arik Karim, Multimedia Staffer

Arik Karim is a first-year staffer and multimedia staffer on The Muse. An ardent debater and student journalist, he is committed to reporting stories and delivering a message to both members of the Dreyfoos community and everyone that lies outside the school gates. In his free time he enjoys reading, spending time with his family, and being subject to the whimsical world of random Netflix show recommendations. Karim is excited to embark on a journalistic journey in the pursuit of excellence alongside his peers.
