In the center of a cheering crowd, theatre sophomore Aissa Duclervil dances at Black Student Union (BSU)’s first block party of the year. The party saw attendees in costumes, including different variations of the “barbecue dad,” as they sang with their peers.

Black Student Union (BSU) hosted their first block party of the year Thursday, Oct. 12 during lunch. The theme of the party was family reunion, and BSU encouraged students to come dressed as “barbecue dads” or “soccer moms.”

With 2000s hits blasting from a speaker, students of all cultures were able to dance together outside of the cafeteria.

“It’s just a space for everyone to have a good time,” co-president of BSU and communications senior Jasmine Mullings said. “We exchange culture, some family stories, and just dance.”
