EXTENDING TALENT BEYOND SCHOOL

The talent of Dreyfoos students has always stretched beyond the classroom. They reach for higher goals and for opportunities to practice their art in any way possible. To provide students with another outlet to share their talent, below is a list of opportunities for each major:

VISUAL

  • Chain of Parks Art Festival is a two-day festival to show your best artwork in Tallahassee in a series of city parks. Each artist receives a station to display their work, and the deadline to apply is Nov. 1. The festival will take place on April 26-28, 2019. DIGITAL MEDIA

 

  • Monochrome Awards is an international photography contest where professional or amateur photographers may submit a series of black and white photos. All pictures must be submitted by Nov. 18.  More information can be found at: https://monoawards.com/page/how-to-enter/

 

THEATRE

  • International Thespian Society hosts an annual National Individual Events Showcase at the International Thespian Festival where actors and actresses can receive feedback on their performances. Florida’s Regional/District Festivals will be held from Nov. 2-9 at multiple locations. More information can be found at: https://www.schooltheatre.org/internationalthespiansociety/home

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Elixir Press Poetry Awards is a poetry contest open to all poets. Poems must be submitted by Oct. 31. The winner will have their work published by Elixir Press and may win up to $2,000. More information can be found at: http://elixirpress.com/guidelines/annual-poetry-awards
  • Orlando Urban Film Festival is a place for professional and amatuer directors and editors to showcase their creations, which may be submitted any time between Oct. 26 and Feb. 8, 2019.   • Faulkner Foundation Fiction Award is hosting a contest in which writers, whose works have been published, may submit their pieces. The deadline is Oct. 31, 2018. More information can be found at: http://www.penfaulkner.org/award-for-fiction/submission-guidelines/

 

*FTC’s Got Talent is available for performers from any major. Participants can play an instrument, sing, dance, or read poems and speeches during this event.
