Opinion: Our review on 7 Brew drinks

Founded in 2017, 7 Brew Drive-thru Coffee was created by Oregonian Ron Crume, with the first location (called a stand) opening in Rogers, Arkansas. Since then, the company has expanded to over 600 locations spanning nationwide. While the menu originally featured seven original drinks (including the Blondie, Sweet and Salty, Cinnamon Roll, Brunette, German Chocolate, Smooth 7, and White Chocolate Mocha), their menu now encompasses thousands of drink combinations. They are available in the form of a variety of drinks, including energy drinks, coffee, sodas, matchas, lemonades, and more. However, within the various drink combinations, they still offer classics — drinks you can get from any typical coffee shop (such as teas and lattes).

In this review, we visited the 7 Brew Okeechobee Blvd location. Intrigued by their versatile menu, we tried a variety of drinks, including an Iced Blondie, Raspberry Truffle Macchiato, Pink Mermaid 7 Energy, and a Monster Mash 7 Energy.

Sabiha and I collaboratively rated the drinks from a scale of 1-10 (with one being the lowest, and 10 being the highest), based on the criteria of presentation, taste, and overall review (our final impressions of the drink based on a combination of the taste, presentation, and our overall enjoyment).

Iced Blondie: a sweet espresso based drink, commonly infused with vanilla and caramel syrup.
Iced Blondie

Blondies are among 7 Brew’s most popular drinks, known for their sweet, caramel-vanilla flavored profile with espresso. When first deciding to review this drink, we were looking for something that had a good balance of caramel and vanilla, and had a creamy, smooth finish.

At first glance, we noticed the drink was light in color with a hint of the brown rooting from the espresso mixed in. The presentation was simple, and looked smooth. For this we rated it a 4/10, as it maintained no stand-out feature, but still looked promising.

As we took our first sips, we immediately noticed the same thing. The creaminess. Unlike any other blondie we have had before, this one was exceptionally milky, with only subtle hints of the vanilla and caramel flavors we had been looking forward to. Although admittedly still delicious, we were definitely expecting more of the promised flavor profile to come forward in this drink. For taste, we rated it a 6/10, as it was delicious, but nothing like what we were expecting based on its description.

Overall, we expected more from such a celebrated drink. It lacked the sweetness we hoped for, and the amount of breve was a little too overpowering for our liking. We decided to rate the overall for this drink a 6/10.

When we first heard about this drink when scrolling through the 7 Brew menu, our immediate thoughts were that we had to try it. We went in with high expectations and were not disappointed. This drink is a dessert-style espresso that features raspberry and white chocolate.

At first glance, the drink was a dark brown color, with a chocolate drizzle that had sunk to the bottom of the cup. The macchiato looked delicious, but we were worried about how bitter the drink would taste based on its color. For the presentation, we decided to rate it an 8/10, for its simple, yet elegant-looking elements.

As we took our first sips, we were immediately hit with the perfect blend of espresso, tart raspberry, and sweet chocolate flavorings. We thought these all paired perfectly together, and thought whoever created this drink definitely deserves a raise. Proved wrong from what we first anticipated, the espresso was not overwhelming, and delighted our taste buds. For taste, we rated this drink a 9/10.

Overall, this drink exceeded our expectations. We decided to rate the overall score an 9/10 for its remarkable, and tasteful qualities.

Pink Mermaid: a 7 Energy drink, consisting of watermelon, coconut, and strawberry syrups, found on Seven Brew’s “secret menu.”
Pink Mermaid 7 Energy

When we were first recommended this drink by a friend, our first thought was, “What could a pink mermaid drink possibly taste like?” We chose to review this drink because of its distinct name, and appealing description of a blend of strawberry, watermelon, and coconut flavors. This flavor combination is selectable in a caffeinated (7 Energy) and non-caffeinated (7 Fizz) version.

When we were first handed this drink in the drive-thru, we were amazed at how vibrant and colorful it appeared. With the vibrance of the pink coloring, we were so excited to try this drink. For the presentation, we rated this a 6/10.

At first taste, we both had very different reactions. I thought the drink was unique, and the combination of fruits and coconut blended perfectly together without being too sweet. However, Sabiha thought the sweetness was overpowering and made the drink unpleasant. Despite this, in the end, we both agreed that it was definitely a distinctive take on a standard energy drink and worth trying. We decided to rate the taste a 6/10.

Overall, this drink was special and surprised us both on different levels. While it may not be for everyone, it was unlike anything we had ever had before. We decided to give it an overall rating of 6/10.

Monster Mash: a 7 Energy drink infused with blue raspberry, pomegranate, and pineapple syrups.
Monster Mash 7 Energy

Finally, we rated the Monster Mash 7 Energy drink. With a name like that, we went in with high hopes. This is a popular secret menu drink that combines the flavors of blue raspberry and pomegranate, and lavender.

At first glance, this drink looked unique, and a deep purple, just how we would expect a monster mash drink to look based on its name. While pigmented, we did expect a little more from the presentation. For this, we rated it an 8/10.

As we took our first sips, we found it was very sweet. The taste of the blue raspberry overpowered the taste of the pomegranate, and it ended up tasting like a sip of straight sugar. Due to this, we decided to rate the taste a 4/10, with it unfortunately not meeting our expectations of a more balanced drink.

Overall, we thought this drink was noteworthy, but not enough to really make it stand out from the other drinks. Because of this, we decided to rate it a 5.5/10.

Overall Review

In the end, we were so glad we got to try all of these drinks, and it was an experience that we would definitely recommend to others.

However, one drink stood out to us both: the Raspberry Truffle Macchiato. This drink was the perfect combination of espresso, tart raspberries, and sweet white chocolate. It would definitely be one which we would order again in the mornings before school.

While my least favorite was the Monster Mash, for its overly sweet taste and overpowering flavors, Sabiha’s was the Pink Mermaid, for its equally overbearing sweetness.

If you’re not too worried about being stuck in their long lines before school, we would both recommend trying these 7 Brew drinks, especially if you choose ones that match your taste, and create new combinations with over 20 of their syrup flavorings, too.
