Smartphones are taking over; lives relying on them more and more each day. The iPhone has revolutionized the world of technology from the release of its first generation on June 29, 2007, all the way up until on Sept. 9, for the grand reveal of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus. Each year, Apple continues to upgrade the phone as it shrinks, grows, and becomes smarter as the years pass.

This year, Apple has released iOS 10. If you have not yet snatched up the new iPhone 7 or 7 plus, you can still play with the new software update if you have an iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6S, or SE. This new system has tweaked and changed previous features of the iPhone, with Apple making bold changes to its operating system. For one, the software offers a completely new way to text including sending messages with the bubble effect, screen effect, send stickers, or even the ability to draw or write out a personalized message. It also includes the new home app, which allows you to turn off lights, unlock doors, and open the blinds of your house if you have the apple home kit. The formatting of the news app, iMusic, and Apple Pay were upgraded as well to be easily navigated. Another new feature can be found in your photo album- memories; this is where the iPhone creates slideshows of photos taken on specific dates or places and puts them together as one.

The exterior of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus look very similar to that of the 6 and 6 plus, however, two major changes can be found in both the home button and camera. The home button is no longer a button you can push in, but rather a pad you put your finger on to scan your fingerprint. The camera is different as well; although the dimensions of the phone are exactly the same, buyers of the new phone can’t recycle their iPhone 6 case because the camera shape takes up more space. The 7 plus offers two cameras that shoot as one with double zoom.

On the Apple site, it gives all the information you need on the new and old iPhones. The main changes that were made to the iphone 7 and 7 plus include: the design, black and jet black finishes, a new home button, and it’s splash and water resistant capabilities. The camera is 12MP and the facetime camera is 7MP. The retina HD display has a wide color gamut and the screen 25% brighter with 3D touch. It is twice as fast as iPhone 6 and has the longest battery life ever in an iPhone. The audio has a new stereo/speaker system which is twice as loud as iPhone 6. Something completely different is the missing headphone jack; now earpods- wireless headphones are available.

“We are going to give you [something] that you can’t live without that you just don’t know you need today.” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with CNBC. “That has always been the objective of Apple. To do things that really enrich people’s lives. That you look back on and you wonder how did I live without this.”
