Football for Dreyfoosians

Football for Dreyfoosians

Dreyfoos is probably the only school that has given us every opportunity we could ask for except one, to include a sport that people actually want to watch. Football is a major part of any student’s high school experience but due to this deprivation of a common after school event, the student body has not been able to learn the basic rules and functions of America’s new favorite past-time.

Although football isn’t included in Dreyfoos activities, the functions of our school are similar to the functions of a football team. Coach Atherley runs the show, giving orders to the players currently on the field. The offense is made up of the Quarterback, Lynn Berryman, who takes the orders from the coach and discusses plays with the rest of the team, the Running Backs, George Miller and Leo Barrett, run with the orders of the coach to deliver what they need to their goal across the school. These goals are their endzones, whether it is reaching the dance building to observe a class or to building 7 in order to catch a freshman skipping class, because freshmen are the only ones who are caught. Our wide receivers, Mrs. Corey Ferrera and Mr. Dan Stafford have the orders from the coach “passed” to them via walkie-talkie and are able to then reach the endzone by juking students in the hall and using spin moves to get into the elevator with finesse.

The defense is the important, yet unnoticed part of the football team, protecting the rest of the team from the offense, or in our case, offenders. Our Outside Line Backers, Officer James O’Sullivan and Officer Anthony Bethel, have the eyes of a hawk and are able to protect our school from those trying to enter. Using zone defense and plays with motion, they seem to be everywhere at once, making even Richard Sherman jealous. They are accompanied by the low-key and ever so mysterious safety, Ms. Becca Mroczkowski. She overlooks the defense and is there to support the two Line Backers who, if they mess up, are able to rely on her to save the day and hopefully the school.

The Special Teams at our school consist of the Kicker, Ms. Naomi Wagner, who is there to bring this school back up to the top one step at a time if the Quarterback is unable to do so by herself. If the goal for the kicker seems too far away, we have our Punter, the members of SOAFI, the ones who are able to support our school as much as they can from the haters and can help the rest of the team bring us to be the best. When the players get hurt, we have no worries because of our head Physical Therapist, Nurse Rose Dascanio, giving everyone, even the fans, they care they need in order to perform as best as they can. After the game, we need the statistics of the day, where our head Technical Analyst, Mr. Edward Hornyak, gives us the numbers and the data of each game.

As you can see, our school may be deprived of a football team that plays on an field, and attracts people from all over the area to see play but that’s not the case. We have a football team of our own, one that attracts students from all over Palm Beach County to see in action, the faculty of our school. They work hard and perform plays all day long in order for the school to reach their goal, their endzone, to be the best school in Palm Beach County, or even the entire state.
