During spring break, communications freshmen Uma Raja and Anjelica Abraham, theatre junior John Hench, communications junior Konrad Czaczyk and visual junior Amanda Zwick attended the Global Student Leaders Summit in Shanghai, China.

The conference united over 700 students from around the globe to discuss global issues. In the topic of environmental issues, Raja was the overall summit winner for her design of a self-regulating bottle for purification of water.

“My group and I had to think of an issue in the environment that we wanted to fix, and we chose water pollution.” Raja said. “Our invention ran on solar power and a copper wire that boiled water to make it clean. It could have a lot of uses in third world countries.”

The students that attended the conference also learned more about teamwork, and gained new experience in interacting with students from around the world.

“Working with students from around the world really opened my eyes to how different cultures could be,” Abraham said. “I learned a lot about social responsibilities in different areas and the conference was an overall great experience.”
