When it comes to the theatre department, the excitement is never ogre. On Sept. 30, the cast list for the spring musical “Shrek” was posted in Building 7.

“I saw my name and ran down the hallway. I definitely teared up a little. I was freaking out,” theatre junior Joey Morfogen, who was cast as Pinnochio, said.

The musical was announced over the summer, and students participated in a joint audition for both “Romeo and Juliet” and “Shrek.” They were required to sing a humorous, contemporary song and a Shakespeare monologue and verse. Later, callbacks for the individual shows were posted. “Shrek” callbacks, which took place approximately a week before the cast list was posted, involved singing sheet music for the characters students received callbacks for. Some students even went to additional callbacks for their roles, like theatre senior Maxime Prissert, who was cast as Shrek.

“I was super excited [when I was cast as Shrek,]” Prissert said. “It was nice to go from my freshman year to this. Being an understudy freshman year, then sophomore year, then a supporting role my junior year, so for my senior year it’s a nice progression.”
